Game Recap

AL NewThe third quarter did not go well for Gadsden City.

It’s not that the first half was a good one for the Titans, but managed to keep their deficit at 10-3 heading into the locker room despite totaling just 31 yards of offense.

Then the game quickly snowballed on Gadsden City because of four turnovers, and Bob Jones took advantage and earned a 34-3 victory in Class 7A, Region 4 action Friday night in Gadsden.

The Titans moved the ball well on their first drive of the second half. On third down from the Gadsden City 46, Ryan Sparks hit Jaylen Cole in stride and he would’ve likely scored, but the wide receiver was unable to haul it in.

The Patriots replied with 17-yard TD run by Isaiah Hatchett to extend their lead to 17-3. After that, it was all Bob Jones.

The next four drives for Gadsden City ended in interceptions, and Terrell Jennings had three of them for Bob Jones. The other one was returned 30 yards for a touchdown by Jaydon Hill. And it all happened in the third period, which the Patriots led 31-3 afterwards.

Jacob Fruehwald’s 27-yard field goal with 4:58 left in the game for the Patriots finished off the scoring.

Star of the game: Bob Jones quarterback Caden Rose made his case with 99 yards passing with one touchdown and 113 yards on the ground with another score, but Jennings’ three interceptions in the third quarter gives him the nod.

Did you know?: If Bob Jones closes the season with wins in its final two region games, the Patriots will lock up the No. 2 seed in Region 4.

Stat sheet: 5, first downs for Gadsden City. The Titans had just one in the first half. 8, the Titans’ longest play in the first half was an 8-yard run by Jaelyn Fleming. 108, total yards by Gadsden City. The Titans had 57 yards passing and 51 on the ground. 392, Total yards for Bob Jones. The Patriots ran for 292 yards.

Play of the game: Rose’s 7-yard pass to Cameron Pugh with 6:13 to go in the third quarter put the Patriots up 24-3 and gave them all the momentum in the process. It came after Jennings’ first interception and the Titans couldn’t recover.

Coachspeak: “I think our kids put so much into this game that our emotions came pouring out maybe in a negative way at times. And we got to learn how to manage that. We got some great kids and they worked their tails off this week. Bob Jones made a play or two and it frustrated us, and that led to us making another mistake or two here. But a lot of our problems are still self-inflicted. We just have to learn and we have a lot of growing to do.” Gadsden City coach Bart Sessions

He Said It: “It was nice. I’m just out here playing and trying to help my team win.” Jennings

Stat Sheet: Jamontez Woods led Gadsden City in rushing with 43 yards on 19 carries. Sparks was 5-of-23 passing for 57 yards. Fleming caught two passes for 25 yards. Hatchett had 86 yards rushing with one touchdown for the Patriots. Kamron Kaba-Williams caught three passes for 61 yards. Dylan Ray had three receptions for 23 yards.

Next week: Gadsden City (3-5, 3-2 Region 4) travels to Sparkman for a region matchup Friday. The Senators fell to Hewitt-Trussville 34-27 Friday night.

Bob Jones (5-3, 4-1 Region 4) hosts Grissom on Friday to continue region play. The Tigers fell to Buckhorn 13-8 Thursday night.

Bob Jones gets huge road win over Gadsden City

madisoncountyrecord-logo200GADSDEN- A week after their worst loss in the nine-years Kevin Rose has been coach, Bob Jones bounced back with one of the biggest wins in program history as the Patriots went on the road to a place they had never won before and soundly defeated Gadsden City 34-3.

The win puts Bob Jones securely in second place in Class 7A, Region 4. This is homecoming week and Grissom comes in Friday night for another huge region game then at Buckhorn on Oct. 27 to wrap up the regular season. The next week is an open date before the playoffs start.

17 GC by Marc Golden - Gadsden TimesAfter a scoreless first quarter Gadsden City went ahead on a field goal but Caden Rose got Bob Jones on the board with a 40-yard scamper for a touchdown. After the defense forced a turnover on downs Jacob Fruewald kicked a 36-yard field goal to put Bob Jones up 10-3 at the half.

Bob Jones dominated the third quarter breaking open a close game with 21 straight points.

Rose set up the first touchdown with a 70-yard completion to Kameron Kaba-Williams then Isaiah Hatchett scored from 17 yards out. Terrell Jennings then picked off a pass and returned it deep in Titan territory. Rose hit Cam Pugh for the touchdown. Jennings would intercept two more passes and Jaydon Hill had an interception that he returned for a touchdown to put Bob Jones up 31-3.

Bob Jones defense held Gadsden City to 108 yards of offense and only 5 first downs.

The Patriot offense rolled up 292 yards rushing. Caden Rose had 113 yards rushing and 99 yards passing and scored two touchdowns.

“It was a big win for us against a talented opponent on the road,” said Bob Jones coach Kevin Rose. “Our offensive line played well led by Colby Morrell at tackle and Caleb Lawson at center who is one of our captains. Caden played another solid game with good execution. Dylan Ray and Demontrez Brown did a good job blocking downfield.”

Rose said that one area that needs improvement is the kick return team “to establish better field position.”

Bob Jones has not returned a kick for a touchdown this year. They allowed a punt to be returned for a touchdown by James Clemens.

Bob Jones also had four interceptions against Florence in week 5. Jennings has five interceptions on the season while Jaydon Hill has four.

Bob Jones (5-3, 4-1) now faces Grissom (2-5, 1-4) who they have not lost too since 2006.
