Patriots News · Bob Jones Places 3 at 7A State Tourney!

Bob Jones qualified 6 wrestlers for the 7A State Tournament in Huntsville this weekend. 3 of the qualifiers placed this weekend! Bob Jones has placed 20 wrestlers over the past 5 years and qualified for all four duals state tournaments in AHSAA history while winning the 2018 duals state championship.

Senior, Ethan Bordelon placed 3rd at 120lbs. He finished his season with 47 wins. Ethan will be continuing his education on full academic scholarship at UAB.

Sophomore, Manny Marrero had a big weekend by placing 4th at 138lbs and finishing the season with 56 wins. (2nd in BJHS history behind Anthony Bruno’s 61 wins)

Senior, Chris Congress placed 4th in the 160lb weight class and finished his season with 51 total wins. Chris has a couple wrestling scholarship offers that he is looking to capitalize on.

Evan Pippin, Mikey Lucente, and Brantley Griffin all helped place the Patriots in the top 10 for the 5th consecutive year. Bob Jones replaced 17 seniors and 13/14 starters from last years team.

“I was very proud of our teams effort throughout the year. We finished 26-3 in duals and placed 3 wrestlers at the state tournament this year. We return a lot of talent and will get back to work with our off season programs.” -Coach Matt Sweatman
