Boys Varsity Baseball · Patriots Claim Area Title with 4th Straight Series Win Over James Clemens

Bob Jones claimed their 2nd straight 7A Area 8 Championship for the 1st time since 2013 after taking 2 out of 3 over James Clemens.  The Patriots clinched the championship on Tuesday with a 7-2 win over James Clemens in game 1 of the series.  Bob Jones has now won four consecutive series over James Clemens with a combined (10-2) record.  Next up for the Patriots is a home playoff series on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th (if necessary) versus Gadsden City.

7A #1 Bob Jones (34-7, 4-1) 7, James Clemens (19-16, 1-4) 2:

An early lead helped Bob Jones defeat James Clemens 7-2 on Tuesday. Bob Jones scored on a 2-RBI double by John Michael Riley in the first inning and a single by Cam Hill in the second inning for a 3-2 lead.

Hill led the Patriots to victory on the hill as he went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out five. Sam Maynard threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen with two strikeouts.

Bob Jones tallied nine hits on the day. Mitchell Daly, Hill, Dylan Ray, and Riley each had two hits for the home team. Daly and Riley had doubles.  Michael Strickland added a single.  Bob Jones stole seven bases during the game with Ray and Colten Carver swiping two bases each.

James Clemens (20-16, 2-4) 4, 7A #1 Bob Jones (34-8, 4-2) 2:

Bob Jones jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Dylan Ray 2-run home run in the 1st inning but gave up four unanswered runs in the loss.

Austin East took the loss for Bob Jones as he pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out six and walking one.  Sam Maynard pitched one and one-third innings in relief with one earned run on two hits.  Andrew Wright pitched the final inning with no runs allowed.

Bob Jones only managed five hits on the day as Michael Strickland, Ray, Tyler Jones, Stuart Edge, and Slate Alford each collected one hit.  The only extra base hit was Ray’s homer.

7A #1 Bob Jones (35-8, 4-2) 8, James Clemens (20-17, 2-4) 3:

Bob Jones defeated James Clemens 8-3 on Thursday thanks in part to Dylan Ray, who drove in four runs on two, two-run bombs. Ray drove in runs on a home run in the third and a home run in the fourth.
In the first inning, Bob Jones got their offense started when Tyler Jones drove in two when he doubled with two outs.  The Pats would score two runs in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 7th innings for an 8-3 final score.

Ray got the win for Bob Jones as he surrendered three runs on four hits over six innings, striking out eight. John Michael Riley threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen with two strikeouts.

Bob Jones collected nine hits on the day. Jones, Brett Brosnan, and Ray each racked up multiple hits for Bob Jones Patriots Varsity. Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.  Cam Hill hit a double and a RBI sacrifice fly while Logan Hittle had a single.
