Boys Varsity Baseball · Patriots Win Four Games in Two Days to Improve to (15-3)


Bob Jones (12-3) 15, Athens (8-4) 8:

Both offenses were strong in Bob Jones Patriots Varsity 15-8 victory over Athens.  Bob Jones fired up the offense in the second inning, when Colten Carver was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.  John Michael Riley got the win for the Patriots. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over two and a third innings, striking out four and walking one. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with John Herron, Nick Brown, Stuart Edge, and Andrew Wright all securing outs and ultimately the victory.

Bob Jones tallied one home run on the day with Mitchell Daly hitting a long ball in the fourth inning.  Bob Jones collected 13 hits on the day. Daly, Slate Alford, and Cam Hill all managed multiple hits for Bob Jones. Ryan Crawford, Caden Rose, and Tyler Jones all hit doubles while Logan Hittle, Stuart Edge, Michael Strickland, and Riley all singled.

Bob Jones (13-3) 7, Athens (8-5) 0: In Game 2, Bob Jones defeated Athens 7-0 on Friday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Bob Jones  got things started in the second inning when Colten Carver’s sac fly scored one run for the Patriots.
Bob Jones tallied three runs in the seventh inning with Caden Rose, Mitchell Daly, and Dylan Ray each driving in runs during the inning.
Cam Hill earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound as he lasted two innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. Wright and Austin East entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  East had five strikeouts in two innings with only one hit allowed.  Wright recorded the last nine outs to earn the save.

Rose had a long ball in the seventh inning to contribute to the nine total hits for the Pats.  Rose went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Bob Jones in hits.  Cam Hill also had multiple hits with a single and a double.  Slate Alford and Daly hit doubles in the game while Tanner Troutt and Tyler Jones singled.

Bob Jones (14-3) 8, Madison Academy (3-9) 3:

Bob Jones was victorious over Madison Academy, 8-3, in game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. Bob Jones got things moving in the second inning as Colten Carver drove in one when he singled.

Luke Tralongo got the win as he lasted four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while walking zero. Sam Maynard threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen to earn the save for the Patriots.

Carver went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Bob Jones in hits.  Slate Alford and John Michael Riley doubled in the game.  Mitchell Daly, Dylan Ray, and Caden Rose rounded out the hit total for the visiting Patriots.

Bob Jones (15-3) 7, Madison Academy (3-10) 5:

Bob Jones came behind late in the game in a 7-5 victory over Madison Academy on Saturday.  Bob Jones Patriots Varsity captured the lead in the second inning when Brett Brosnan drove in one when he singled. In the top of the sixth inning, Bob Jones tied things up at five when a wild pitch allowed one run to score for the Patriots.

Bob Jones scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Brosnan and a double by Caden Rose.
Thomas Ballard got his first career win as he allowed four hits and five runs over six innings, striking out two. Rose threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen to earn his 4th save of the season.

The Patriots saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Rose and Dylan Ray each racked up multiple hits for Bob Jones. Rose went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Bob Jones in hits while Ray added two singles..  Slate Alford had a double while Colten Carver and Brosnan had singles.

Next up, Bob Jones travels down to the coast for games versus Spanish Fort, Daphne, St. Paul’s, UMS-Wright, and McGill-Toolen during Spring Break.
