Bob Jones defeated Decatur 3-0 on Tuesday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Luke Tralongo got the final out with a fielder’s choice to finish off the game. The pitching was strong on both sides as Patriot pitchers struck out ten, while Decatur pitchers sat down eight.
In the second inning, Bob Jones got their offense started. John Michael Riley began the inning with a bunt single. Riley then stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on an errant throw. Dylan Ray followed with a single to score Riley for a 1-0 lead for the Pats. The score would hold at 1-0 until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Patriots would add two insurance runs.
In the 6th inning, Colten Carver led off the inning with a double and scored on a Riley single. Riley then stole 2nd and scored on a Ray single once again. This gave the Patriots a 3-0 lead entering the 7th which would hold up.
Sam Maynard (1-0) got the win for the Patriots as he allowed two hits and zero runs over four and a third innings, striking out seven. Tralongo entered with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th inning before striking out the first batter and inducing a ground ball to 3rd base to earn his 1st save of the year. Stuart Edge started the game for Bob Jones. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one.
Bob Jones finished with 8 hits on the game with Ray and Riley both having 2 singles each. Logan Hittle and Carver had doubles while Mitchell Daly and Stuart Edge added singles.
The Patriots return to action on Thursday at the Perfect Game High School Showdown with games at the Hoover Met versus 4A #1 Sumrall, MS at 6:30 and 4A #1 Cartersville, GA at 8:00.
