Bob Jones defeated the defending 6A State Champs for the 2nd time this week with another 1-run victory. Bob Jones opened up the scoring in the first inning with a 3-run inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Colten Carver tripled on a 0-2 count, to score Cam Hill who reached via walk. John Michael Riley then singled to score Carver for the 2nd run of the game. Dylan Ray followed with a 2-0ut single to left field to score Riley.
Hazel Green would answer with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd to cut the lead to 3-2. The Patriots would answer back with a run after a double by Stuart Edge and a single by Caden Rose to bring him in to make the score 4-2. Both teams traded runs in the 4th inning for a score of 5-3 in the Patriots favor. Hazel Green then scored in the top of the 6th to trim the lead to 5-4 before Tanner Troutt made a diving catch at the center field wall to save at least one run.
Austin East (2-0) earned the victory on the hill for Patriots. He lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out six. Andrew Wright and Stuart Edge entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Edge recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Bob Jones, his 2nd of the year.
Carver went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, RBI, and run to lead Bob Jones on Offense. Slate Alford also added two hits. Edge pitched in a double while Riley, Hill, Rose, and Dylan Ray added singles for 9 total hits for the Pats.
Bob Jones returns to action on Saturday at Hoover High School with games against Johns Creek, GA and Lassiter, GA at 11:00 and 1:30.
