the #1 team in 7A, Bob Jones, took down Hazel Green, the #3 team in 6A, 3-2 in a 8-inning battle in a playoff game atmosphere The game was tied at two with Bob Jones batting in the top of the eighth when Caden Rose hit a solo homer to deep left field to put the Patriots on top for good.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Bob Jones pitchers struck out nine, while Hazel Green pitchers sat down 21. Hazel Green opened up scoring in the second inning with a sac fly that scored one run for Hazel Green. Bob Jones evened things up at two in the top of the fourth inning with Slate Alford’s first home run of the year.
Rose (1-0) picked up the win on the mound with four and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out four. Cam Hill started the game for the Patriots and allowed three hits and two runs over three and a third innings, striking out five.
All of the Patriots’ runs would come by the long ball with three solo home runs on the day. Alford had a dinger in the fourth inning. Hill went yard in the third inning. Rose had a long ball in the eighth inning.
Hill led the offense with three hits in four at bats with a home run, double, RBI, run, and SB. Carver added a double down the left field line to give the Patriots a total of 6 hits for the day.
Bob Jones will play Hazel Green in a rematch on Thursday at Bob Jones at 7:00.
