Buckhorn (20-8-1) 5, Bob Jones (15-22) 4: Buckhorn won in dramatic fashion with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th inning to defeat the visiting Patriots by a score of 5-4 in a 7A Area 8 match up.
Bob Jones struck early with a run in the top of the 1st inning after Caden Rose led off the game with a single and scored on a ground ball by Dylan Ray which the third basemen threw away down the 1st base line. Buckhorn took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a 2-out triple on an 0-2 count by lead off hitter Drew Hill.
The Patriots would immediately answer back with a run of their own in the top of the 3rd inning to knot the score at 2 a piece. Connor Daly hit a 1-out single and courtesy runner Chase Smith scored on a 2-out double down the left field line by Ford Luttrell.
Buckhorn jumped back on top 4-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning with 2 runs on 1 hit, 1 error, 3 walks, and 3 stolen bases. The Patriots would not go quietly as they fought back with one run in the 6th inning. Mitchell Daly hit a 1-out double, moved to third base on a passed ball, and scored on a balk.
In the top of the 7th inning, Thomas Mitchell reached second to lead off the inning on a throwing error by the Buckhorn shortstop. Pinch runner Brendan Bickleman moved to third on a ground ball to 2nd base by Rose and scored on a single up the middle by Connor Daly to tie the game at 4-4.
Buckhorn’s lead off hitter reached 2nd base on a throwing error to lead off the inning. An intentional walk, strikeout, passed ball, and another intentional walk followed to load the bases with one out. Griffin Johnson singled to the right side of the field past the infield in to secure the walk-off victory for the Bucks.
Ford Luttrell (4-2) received a no decision with 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits in 5 1/3 innings with 6 strikeouts, 4 walks, and 2 HBP. John Michael Riley (2-4) was the tough luck losing pitcher with 1 unearned run on 1 hit with 1 strikeout in the final inning.
Rose and C. Daly both finished with 2 hits while Luttrell and M. Daly had doubles. Dylan Patel also singled for the Patriots.
