The Bob Jones Golf Team finished their best tournament of the season on Monday with a second place finish at the Huntsville Invitational on the Highlands course at Hampton Cove, where Bob Jones senior Austin Chandler won his second tournament in a row. Unlike last week’s tournament at Canebrake, where cold temperatures and high winds blew the players around, Monday featured warm temperatures and ideal scoring conditions. Four-year varsity golfer Austin Chandler took advantage, getting off to a blistering start with three birdies in his first four holes. He overcame a stumble on the barn hole on the front nine to record two more birdies and an eagle on the par-5 15th for a back nine score of 32. Junior Blake Batchelor improved his score by ten shots over last week’s tournament at Canebrake, helping propel Bob Jones to their best finish of the year. Bob Jones is back in action at Cider Ridge Golf Course in Oxford next week. Then there’s one last tournament at Goose Pond in Scottsboro before the end of the year section tournament May 1st at Huntsville Country Club. The top two teams in Section 4 Class 7A will then advance to the Substate tournament on May 9th before final selections for the State Tournament at Auburn’s Grand National May 15th and 16th.
