Multiple Teams · Bob Jones boys hoops hungry after coming within a win of state semifinals

AL.com LogoBob Jones came within three points last season of going to the Class 6A state semifinals in Birmingham. The Patriots fell, 56-53, to Bessemer City in the finals of Northwest Regional in Hanceville. It was the program’s best showing since winning the state title in 2010.

Graham Aderholt was named the 2013-14 Tennessee Valley Coach of the Year after Bob Jones improved from 8-22 to 19-12.

“We had a very successful season, but I want the team to be more consistent,” Aderholt said. “We had too many highs and lows last year. Our area (Class 7A, Area 8) is one of the toughest in the state. All the teams in Madison County are talented and extremely well coached.”

Aderholt said the Patriots will start the season without seven players who are currently part of the Bob Jones footballl team.

Coach speak: “There is amazing coaching talent in our area and North Alabama. We get to play against hall-of-fame coaches Jack Doss (Johnson, seven state championships) and Danny Petty (James Clemens, three state titles). That’s why North Alabama basketball is special. Once we get into the area games it’s a playoff game every night,” — Aderholt
They said it: “Our goals are to win the area and get to Birmingham. We were three points short of that goal last year and we have a veteran team who can get there this season,” — Dupree
